One of the exciting things about taking
music lessons is that we can share our music with others. The Half Note
Studio recognizes that the thought of performing ignites a degree of anxiety
among many students. We have addressed this concern by creating a low key
performance atmosphere. The Half Note Studio Cook & Jam has proven to be
fun and entertaining for both the musicians and their guests.
"So, what's a Cook & Jam?"
The Cook and Jam originated in Director
Jack Dowdell’s prior studio in San Antonio. Students would prepare a song or 2
and perform for each other in his backyard. Following the performances, which
were less formal than traditional recitals, Jack and his students would provide
the food for the cook out. Jam sessions and fellowship would follow.
The beautiful Northwest does not offer
year round cookout weather so the event was moved indoors. We still have the
event quarterly. Students welcome the opportunity to show what they have been
working on and often play together in duets and trios. No one is required to
perform and everyone is encouraged to bring their instruments for the open jam
session.
