One of the exciting things about taking music lessons is that we can share our music with others. Half Note Music School recognizes that the thought of performing ignites a degree of anxiety among many students. We have addressed this concern by creating a low key performance atmosphere called Half Note Live. These events have proven to be fun and entertaining for both the musicians and their guests.

Half Note Live

Half Note Live (formerly called Cook & Jam) originated in Director Jack Dowdell's prior school in San Antonio. Cook and Jam was so named because students would prepare a song or two, perform for family and friends and conclude with a cook out with more jamming.

Half Note Live Q&A

Q: Who performs?
A: Students invited by the Half Note staff.

Q: What do they play?
A: Blues, classical, jazz, folk, rock...

Q: When?
A: When they're ready.

Half Note Live performances are by invitation from the faculty and can happen at any time of the year. Students study music independently with their instructor(s) and when there is an accumulation of about 18 songs approaching performance readiness, a show is booked. At that time, the students who are playing in groups begin their rehearsals while the soloists continue fine tuning their selections. Students invited to perform are encouraged to do so but it is not mandatory.
